Tromsø - Boat Tour

In Tromsø I joined the Silent Whale Watching tour offered by Brim Explorer. It was an incredible experience to sail through the icy Artic waters, surrounded by fjords and observe whales. The boat departs early from Tromsø and travels for about 3 hours to the area near Skjervøya, a region often frequented by whales, orcas and other marine life that feed during the winter.

The Norwegian fjords, which accompany the journey, are a wonder in themselves. The view is breathtaking, with frozen mountains surrounding the icy sea. These natural formations are sea inlets surrounded by steep mountains, sculpted by glacial movements over thousands of years.

During the tours, it's unpredictable which species you'll encounter: humpback whales, sperm whales, orcas, among others. On the day I went, I was able to observe only humpback whales, but I was fortunate to come across a rare large family of about 10 members, typically, you see just 2 or 3 individuals alone. Humpback whales are famous for their breaches out of the water. They communicate through "whale songs", and hearing them sing was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. These whales can grow up to 16 meters long and each one has a unique pattern on its tail, serving as their fingerprint. Photographing these whales was challenging, with the boat's movement, the waves, and the water adding to the difficulty.

During my stay, I experienced the beginning of the polar night, the time of the year when the sun does not rise during the 24h of the day. Despite this, it was still possible to witness the sunset, a beautiful sight.
