Dresden Christmas Market - Germany

The Striezelmarkt in Dresden is one of Germany's oldest Christmas markets and is considered the first genuine Christmas market in the world. It was founded as a one-day market in 1434. In the 21st century, the Striezelmarkt has developed into a huge event with 240 stands. It takes up a large part of Dresden city centre and lasts throughout the Advent period until Christmas Eve. Nowadays the Striezelmarkt attracts 3 million visitors a year from all over the world.

However Striezelmarkt is not the only Christmas market in town, it is the biggest and most famous one. Actually Dresden has a total of seven Christmas markets scattered in different parts of the city. Following are pictures of the market in front of the Frauenkirche.

Beautiful Christmas ornaments are everywhere. Below are pictures of Prager Straße and its surroundings such as the Altmarkt and the Hauptbahnhof (main train station).

On the North side of Dresden, across the Elbe River, we have this wonderful tree on the Neustadt (New Town district).
