Bastei - Germany

If you are near or passing through the Saxony, in Germany, you cannot miss Bastei, the major landmark of the Saxon Switzerland National Park (in Germany: Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz).

Located about 40km from Dresden, on the banks of the Elbe River, the place is famous for its rocky pillars, which rise up to 194m above the river, reaching up to 305m in altitude.

A tourist attraction for 200 years, the Bastei Bridge was first built in 1824 out of wood, later being replaced in 1851 by rock. The site has breathtaking views of the rock formations, the valley with vast forests, and the river.

The Bastei region also offers hiking trails. It is possible to walk among the trees and the long rock walls, having direct contact with nature and fresh air. The area extends over the borders into the Bohemian Switzerland (Czech Republic).
